Hair loss is often something that is thought of as a male problem but that is far from the case. The fact is that many women suffer from thinning hair and hair loss as well, it is just harder for them to make a joke about it or just shave it all off like a guy can!

If thinning hair is a problem for you chances are you have been tempted to try – or have already tried – one of the many “solutions” you will find lined up on the shelf at your local drugstore. There are though some sensible, natural solutions for thinning hair and hair loss that can make a real difference to the health of your hair:

Your Diet – You are what you eat – and that applies to your hair too. Everyone should really be trying to follow as healthy a diet as possible for the sake of their overall health, but foods like peppers, bean sprouts, cucumbers and potatoes (but the skin not the vegetable itself) are rich in a substance called silica which can really help promote better hair strength and reduce the hair breakage that contributes to the overall problem of thinning hair and hair loss.

Green Tea – Green Tea really is pretty amazing stuff. It helps promote weight loss and is full of antioxidants. Recent research however has also found that naturally occurring substances in green tea inhibit the formation Type I 5-alpha-reductase enzyme, which converts testosterone into the hair-killing DHT which is a major cause of hair loss in both men and women.

Onion Juice – This one sounds a little crazy but recent research has been able to back up claims that onion juice can work wonders for those with thinning hair and who suffer from hair loss. In a study published in The Journal of Dermatology researchers worked with people who had been officially diagnosed with possibly the worst form of hair loss, alopecia areata. 23 patients were asked to apply pure onion juice directly to their scalp twice daily for a period of two months. Some study participants experienced hair growth in as little as two weeks and by the 4 week mark hair regrowth was observed in 17 of the patients with that number rising to 20 by the six week mark!

These are just a few of the natural solutions you can try to help prevent further hair loss and promote the growth of new, healthier hair. There are of course also some things that you should try not to do such as using a shampoo with too many harsh ingredients – many feel that a sulfate free shampoo is the best choice for those with thinning hair. And although hair coloring can be helpful in that it can add the illusion of volume to thinning hair if you want to color your hair try to find hair color ideas that involve gentler coloring products and avoid harsh bleaches which will damage anyone’s hair!
